Atually, on sites ike U-tube, etc. I saw some very simple gadgets like using aluminium foil over a dish placed facing the wifi receiver. These were claimed to work very well. The one you have looks very odd indeed....

How about a special Chess ID that's used for all events? You can order it online or pick it up at your first event. Eventually everyone will have an id....
