ASEAN+: Opening Ceremony

One of the biggest chess crowd I’ve ever seen exception being the (whisper) tournament that was the biggest tourney in Malaysia and entered into the Malaysian Guinness Book of Record. But this tournament is infinitely organised and crowd control is good.
Although three rounds have already been played, today is the opening ceremony. It’s a normal occurence as all previous DATMO too had the opening in the middle of the tournament days.

At first I thought these were St. John Ambulance but they are actually trainee nurses from Masterskill - the main sponsor for this event. First time I see so many trained medical personnel in a chess tournament !!

Alberto - the main man doing the pairings for every round. Quite a demanding task as I’ve seen him face with monumental task of handling the ever changing team member orders before every round.

Perak princess Raja Datuk Seri Azureen Sultan Azlan Shah walking and meeting the junior players taking part.

Florencio Campomanes (White) vs Edmund Santhara (CEO of Masterskill) - time control 5 minutes. Shaking hands after the conclusion of the game.
As an aside, I talked to Edmund together with Vickneswaran (daFifthKnight) once in the first DATMO when Edmund was a participant there!! We were curious as we have never heard of him before. Little did we know he was a CEO of a big company that would later sponsor the ASEAN+ Youth Team event.
Guess who won?
Final position. Draw!!

Familiar faces. Ken Wei, Zhou Ren and Izz.
