Did anyone noticed that Quah Seng Sun’s last week’s chess column has gone back to the old format?
It has a chess diagram and sample game from the Amber tourney.

In the past Mr Quah stopped including games and diagrams for unknown reasons. And at that time, I think the column lost some of it’s attraction to gilachess people like me but I still collected the chess column for it’s interesting news and list of upcoming events.
I hope there will be more columns in this format.

Arrived late. 9.15 am when I’m supposed to reach there before 9am to confirm registration. My excuse was that I was setting up my page so that Twitter SMS could work

Also thanks to Stonemaster Fadli for giving me a free entry to this tournament. They had problems with getting the power to work. There was no power points !!
So in the end there was a 2 hour delay before the first round started.
In the meantime I had this. Ok Ok.. I know in the past I had the “Say NO to Nasi Lemak” banner. Nasi Lemak is VERY UNHEALTHY. But since the banner is gone from this website, I think I can have Nasi Lemak again Once in a while ok lah…
Hmmm.. nice smell of food coming from downstairs. So you see I had to fill my stomach or else I’d be too distracted during the tournament

It is at times like these I miss my Nokia 7650. You see that old phone could interface with my wireless keyboard and typing on it was FAST!
Here it is in action with rubber band holding it to the infra-red keyboard.
Anybody know if there is a second hand 7650 around ?? I’m interested to buy one.

It’s not often I can see my own name in the top 5 list. As I said before this is only the 2nd time in my life I’ve EVER finished top 5 in a local tournament. Also it’s the 3rd time in my life I’ve ever won prize money for chess. So let me gloat for a while …

Sometimes when a new technology comes around it truly astounds you. Twitter is one such technology. I love how it can post to my blog almost immediately using phone SMS. I’ve registered with Twitter last year but never knew what it was about. That time I thought it was a pretty lame tool where people twitter about when they woke up, what they had for breakfast, go to work, take the bus etc etc. However I changed my mind. Now I’m impressed!! I’ve made numerous ad-hoc SMS post throughout the Stonemaster tourney and coming home I found each and every one of the SMS came out in this blog…

I don’t need WiFi. All I needed was just a handphone that can send SMS and a free Twitter account. Total spent on SMS was about RM 3 which I think it’s quite cheap for having live updates like this. So the trial chess results update via Twitter is a resounding success!!

One of the coolest thing I discovered with Twitter is that whenever I make updates, my “followers” can receive the updates via web or even SMS.

Yes that’s right! For example if you follow me via SMS, every update I make will go into your phone as SMS. The good thing about this is that it’s totally FREE.
