CAS is having their annual AGM now. It’s 2pm. I assume we will be starting round 3 in an hours time.

I took white against Jax Tham and he played the Caro Kann, the very opening I was planing to play as Black. Still, his version was pretty passive and he practically forced me to play easy but naturally strong moves. In the middle game I had a slight advantage but didn’t know what to do. That in turn, lead me to the loss at the end. Perhaps that’s Jax strategy against patzers like me. Give us enough rope, and we will go and hang ourselves

RM 90 plus CAS membership. I can’t remember if I paid already because I vaguely remember paying once.. but was it this year or last year? Damn.. my memory is getting shot! Anyway, let me document it here on this blog. I paid CAS membership fees 2008 in this tournament

After that, we waited for the tables and chairs to be arranged as the seating hall for the opening ceremony was also the playing hall.

Took a little longer than expected. Half an hour later my stomach was growling and I should have thought of buying some food first before coming to the tournament hall. Luckily Ismail Ahmad was ready to supply chess players box drinks and Apollo cakes. RM 2 for the drinks and cake.

Disappointing as no free coffee as suggested by Ilham in one of the blog comments here.

One hour later and the sky has become dark.

Problem is that there are chess pieces but someone has forgotten to bring the chessboards.

Alternatively there is Mc Donalds phone no displayed so that we can call for food.

Finally. At 7.30pm (supposed to start at 6pm) the chess boards arrive and the pairing comes out.

All the participants can wait to get to their seats.

Jax Tham my opponent is already seated and writing down his and my names on the score sheet.

Nicholas Chan is playing too. My predictions of the top 3 most likely champion is Nicholas Chan, Ian Udani or Ronnie Lim.

Well since it’s prayer time, Muslim players are allowed to go for prayers and stop their clock for 10 minutes before continuing.
Jax looks at me and jokingly asks me if I want to say my prayers. I don’t need to la.. No prayers can help me against him

As my game was ending, I saw Leong Mun Wan arriving at the tournament hall. He already paid according to the namelist. Did he miss the first round? Did not get the chance to ask him..

Sorry no updates on results as I was rushing back to catch the LRT and bus to get home. LRT is said to close at 11pm.

Will update you guys on the results tomorrow morning.

Oh.. one result.. I lost to Jax (of course!).
