No not for the official website but for GilaChess !!
The 1st Subic International Chess online coverage is pretty bad as there isn’t even a final results posted on the official site (www.ncfphilippines.org) many days after the event is over.
There is definitely interest in the two back-to-back tournament. Just look at the traffic on GilaChess alone when I reformatted and reposted the results (from the official site). It’s a record high as GilaChess usual traffic is just 150-200 visits a day. The funny thing is that I got a lot of international traffic too. I assume that it was chess fans who wanted news for the 2 events.
In short, I think it was a waste that they did not publicise the event online more. Online presence wise, it’s almost as if the event did not exist.
The work to publish the results is pretty much a copy and paste thing so it’s not much manual work there. I suppose the possible reasons for the lact of the Subic International Chess updates is poor internet connection or lack of manpower ?
I’m keeping notes as I am still looking for features of an ‘ideal’ tournament website.
Here’s what I would want to see:
- Live blogging tools such as Twitter/SMS being used so that important ad-hoc results can be posted immediately (eg: “Last round and 4 leaders. GM norm for X if he wins..”)
- Candid pictures of players
- Sample top games
- Daily summary/report/pairings (use of chess-results.com would be ideal)
- Interview with top players
- Final results
The Subic Open only has #3,#4.
Also it would be nice if a web friendly version of the pairing/results were shown on the website (instead of downloading an Excel file).
What else would you want from an ideal tournament website?
