I have to confess. I did not finish the bulletin on Saturday before the Seremban Open. There were about 20 scoresheets marked with asterisks because I hit moves that were illogical/illegal so there must have been mistakes made in previous moves. Since it would be time consuming to figure them out I just marked it to be completed later. Today I finally completed all of them and what a big relief!!

One of the things I hate during my short stint as bulletin boy for the National Closed is the unnecessary long games that is played. Being the National Championship you would think that players have the courtesy to resign when they are clearly lost. What I dread is finding such games (and there are many!) because I find it such a waste of time. Here’s an example(names witheld) :-
Thankfully there are also high quality games from the top boards that make the work worth it. Also, I’m grateful that there aren’t many 100+ move “GM-like” endgames to key in. Otherwise I’ll go out of my mind

As far as I remember Jax Tham has always beaten talented but young Yeoh Li Tian. Even in the recent Port Klang rapids was won by Jax. On the other hand I’ve lost to Li Tian 3 times in a row. So I was curious to see what was the ’secret’ Jax had winning Li Tian consistently. This game is from Round 7 of the National Championship.
Endgame? Probably that’s Yeoh’s weakest phase of the game. Of course, I’m sure this will not stay that way for long.
