Appreciating chess more

Recently I’ve had the chance to discuss my games with some strong local players and I’m amazed how much I don’t understand about chess. I thought my opening understanding was decent and I was weak in my middlegame and endgame. However it turned out that I suck pretty much in the opening too. I was [...]

The Hungry Theory

The brief chit chat with Woo Beng Keong and Balendran during our Taylor’s Open lunch break yesterday got me thinking about how satiated we Malaysians are. We are not hungry enough. Economically we are well to do (relatively speaking that is). In this respect we are ahead of Vietnam and Philippines. But in the [...]

A game from Taylor’s Open

This is yet another one of my sillier games I’ve played.
As you can see, I went out of my way to protect my Bishop pair. The Bxh6 sac was probably not quite sound and the only reason I won in the end is my opponent cooperated by blundering in the final moves

GilaChess getting rated ?

Got this SMS from Remis Aman:
U now have FIDE ID Code 5704278!

I was at the Taylor’s tournament and didn’t have a net connection to check.
Now having dinner at the mamak shop I checked FIDE website and saw that I indeed have a FIDE ID.

All the rated games were taken from the Selangor Open 2008. [...]

Bus to Taylor’s Open

You can get to Taylor’s College by taking the RapidKL bus T623 from Kelana Jaya LRT station.

Taken from RapidKL website.
You should get off at Sri Kuala Lumpur. Taylor should be a short walk from there.

The magic is gone

I come from the small town of Teluk Intan (Perak) and back when I was schooling, chess was magical.
I remember how our small chess club started. It was started by my math teacher who just announced to anyone who was interested to bring a chess set to the library meeting room. About 10 students [...]

Taylor’s Open (22/06/2008)

Not many people know this but prior to being a computer programmer, I was also a computer programming lecturer for several years. I taught computer programming in Taylors for about 6 months somewhere after the SARS virus episode when they could not get enough quota of Canadian lecturers to teach in Malaysia. Although it was [...]

Bullet Chess

Hikaru vs Finegold. Hikaru won.
Did you notice the two handed action? Some say that it’s allowed for capturing pieces.
