Celestino Cain passed away
I received this news late. A chess friend called me and told me that Celestino had passed away on May 31. A quick search on the net and Closet Grandmaster had posted this news last month. He is a Philippino National Master who has represented his country in the Olympiad.
This is indeed sad news as I’ve met Celestino once and played 2 games of chess with him. He was nice and gave me advice on my games. Initially he was supposed to be my coach but that never happened. From the brief encounter with him I can tell that he is a quiet but kind man. I’m grateful that he took the time to give me pointers and highlighting my weaknesses. I heard that Celestino coached players when there were juniors such as Mark Paragua.
