GilaChess is seeded 15th at the beginning of the tournament. On paper it would look like we have a chance to make it to top 10 as there will be 5 teams that will take the special prizes of top 5 teams for Best Malaysian Team.
Of course that is my simple reasoning but that would be a pretty tough act to pull off considering there are teams with GMs in them. Still that’s a good target!
Uzbeks GM Dzhumaev, Marat (2549) and GM Iuldachev, Saidali (2520) are getting used to playing on Table no 1. This is the team with Ian Udani playing on board 3. They are the favourites now to win.

Some Like It Hot psp A junior boy found a USD 100 and returned it to the organisers here in the tournament. The rightful owner was found and the money returned. I guess most people would have just kept the money.

The common comment I get when talking to chess players here in the playing hall is that some of the teams are very strong. Here’s one..
Cut and pasted this from FIDE. The above two are Uzbekistan GMs who are part of Ian Udani’s team. (Ian plays board 3). Definitely one of the favourites to win. based on their strength.

Ian Udani. Arguably one of the strongest player in the local rapid ‘circuit’ this year. I think only Nicholas Chan is his match in rapid play. His team is also very strong. It’ll be interesting to see how Ian fares in the Malaysian Open. which he will also be taking part. One of his weaker points is long time controls as seen in his results in the Selangor Open. But Ian has been working on his longer time control games and I have no doubts he has improved. I’m predicting one or two Udani upset wins over GMs.

Many assumed that since there is a GilaChess team, I’m also playing. But I am not.
Reason is that I want to concentrate on the websites and blogs. The DATMO official site is not up yet. There is a lot to be done. Beside the GilaChess team is quite strong now without me messing things up

It’s not as pathethic as I made it sound when I said I had no internet at the playing hall. I do have an Airzed account I can use but I have to go down to the Hotel Lobby to do that. It’s just 5 floors down and a lift away.
This is a test post from the Hotel’s lobby. One small problem is my notebook battery is almost dead and can only last me 15 minutes on a full charge. Still that’s enough for me to prepare my post on the 5th floor and post it from the lobby.
It’s now 5.40 am and in 3 hours I will meet GilaChess team. Exciting!!
