For once I have to agree with ‘Malaysian’. FM Lim Yee Weng and IM Mas Hafizulhelmi’s valiant efforts in chess is a good example to Malaysian chess players. Both have come close to obtaining the GM norm.That in itself is must be inspirational to many Malaysians.
Both have made sacrifices in their work to strive and better themselves in chess. They keep on trying in the face of impossible odds. I for one would like to see more of this “near misses” as I’m sure one of this tries will hit their target.

Dato Arthun Tan Malaysian Open is over. It has reached the 5 editions promised by Dato Tan. It is indeed sad to think there will be no more international tournaments of this magnitude in Malaysia for next year.
download Cold Creek Manor movie I was hoping that in Dato speech that new sponsors have already been found and would take over the Malaysian Open series for next year. Alas no announcements were made.
Still, next year is a long way off. Fingers crossed that by some miracle it can and will happen…

On the other hand, I’m relieved that the event is over because my website can’t take anymore high hits on traffic. Tonight is a record high at 650 visits in a day. It should be returning back to normal in a day or two.
It will also be interesting to see Edwin’s Lam article posted on Chessbase about the event (which should be coming out anytime).

Back to Jax Tham’s resignation to protest the dispute on his opponent not recording.
Stan Helsing full movie I got it wrong. Actually Jax’s opponent totally did not record a single move till the end when time trouble was looming. It was only then, Jax noticed his opponent scoresheet was blank!

Some say the correct thing to do was to stop the game but let the clock run on the opponent’s time while he completed the score sheet. But in the game, the clock was stopped while the arbiter was called to the table. In the discussion between player and arbiter, Jax’s opponent actually took the time to get Jax’s scoresheet and quickly copy down the moves. However after move 25 he presumably could not decipher Jax’s writing and just scribbled wavy lines.
Jax point was that even though his position was losing during the time trouble, he had to take time out to write down his move while his opponent saved time by not writing. The clock was stopped for the opponent to copy Jax’s scoresheet. In the end, for not recording Jax’s opponent was penalised 2 minutes.
