Dato Arthun Tan Malaysian Open is over. It has reached the 5 editions promised by Dato Tan. It is indeed sad to think there will be no more international tournaments of this magnitude in Malaysia for next year.
download Cold Creek Manor movie I was hoping that in Dato speech that new sponsors have already been found and would take over the Malaysian Open series for next year. Alas no announcements were made.
Still, next year is a long way off. Fingers crossed that by some miracle it can and will happen…

On the other hand, I’m relieved that the event is over because my website can’t take anymore high hits on traffic. Tonight is a record high at 650 visits in a day. It should be returning back to normal in a day or two.
It will also be interesting to see Edwin’s Lam article posted on Chessbase about the event (which should be coming out anytime).
Oh Edwin, if you are reading this, please don’t forget to mention the official tournament website:- www.DATMO.net
Planet of the Apes divx It was left out in every article you wrote past years and I had to email Chessbase to have it included.

Hamid said at the start of Rapid Team that there is no truth that DATMO ends this year.
DATMO official site reported that Dato’ Tan’s daughter, CEO of Gold IS will take over DATMO thereafter.
GilaChess : 26 August 2008 at 7:33 pm
Correction. That site you are referring is a blog and not the official DATMO website.
MCF official website: http://tcn.sourceforge.net
DATMO tournament website: http://www.datmo.net
2nd correction. Ahmad Shafruddin probably words probably confused you. “DATMO tradition lives on..” is misleading. Please don’t make any assumptions as there is no confirmation from Dato Tan’s daughter that they will take over DATMO. Though this is still an open question and she may just take over.
3rd. Hamid mentioned that the rumours that this event is the last is not true. He was referring to the current event taking place at that time which was the Merdeka Team event. The team event will continue on.

Maybe so, but have you ever seen Dato’s daughter intoduced at a chess event and standing next to the MCF secretary and other GM’s. That in itself is an introduction of sorts. You don’t see his other children around, do you?
Anyway don’t you wish that is true anyway. Last time we had Mrs. Chen (now Datuk)of Selangor Pewter, whose sponsorship of Selangor Open is nearly as old as CAS itself.

There is certainly no rumour that the Merdeka Team Event has a 5-year limit, is there? This event has gone on longer than some of the participants are old. From that the reference should be to DATMO.
GilaChess : 26 August 2008 at 9:37 pm
No rumour about DATMO but that again is a misunderstanding. My posts on DATMO being the last had some people talking about Merdeka Team being the last one too. Hamid was clarifying that Merdeka is continuing and the rumour is just a rumour.
Of course I wish it was true (that Dato’s daughter will continue DATMO) but let’s not make false claims.

Can anyone remember whether there was a rapid team event before DATMO? I can only remember there was a Merdeka Team, standard time limit. 5 years seem a long time….

Andrew, no offence intended. During DATMO, the official site DATMO.com was not updated for long periods of time, so much so that Shafruddin’s blog became the “official” mouth piece of the tournament. Although the blog was brief and slow too, it still provided much needed info.
GilaChess : 27 August 2008 at 7:54 am
Yes I know that and no offense taken.
For me, it doesn’t matter where the info comes from as long as it is out there and can be found easily. That is why I included a permanent link from DATMO.net website to Shafruddin’s blog because he has Internet access and can update faster. I also posted links to him from this blog. (however the reverse is not true
)
