Pictures from Day 1
An incident where Timothy Capel handphone went off in a game vs Ian Udani. Apparently it was not because of an incoming call but an alarm set earlier and still went off despite the phone being off.
Ian was quite sporting in that he didn’t want to claim a win which no doubt would have been valid.
Also, I found out that he was so concerned about his bad habit of using two hands (source of controversy as commented on this blog) that he actually sat on one hand in some games in the Merdeka Rapid event.
China is churning out so many new faces. Despite the missing regular chinese players like Zhang Jilin (who has come here the last 4 years!), there are fresh faces appearing here like Xu Tong (ELO 2200+) who does not have a title yet.
Top seed Zhang Zhong concentrating hard and winning vs his second round opponent, FM Novita Anjas.
Another new Chinese face in the Malaysian Open - WIM Zhang Xiaowen.
WGM Gu Xiaobing did not fare too well vs IM Julio Catalino ( who is chasing for his 3rd and final GM norm here).

It pains me to see the “Malaysian Championship” has begun so early. Again we see most locals playing each other at the wrong end of the table. Only LYW is holding up our flag. What is wrong?????
Where are you…. Nicholas, Marcus, Edward, Ronnie, etc who are our national masters.
