The Malaysian "Dream Team" for the 38th World Chess Olympiad.
This is just a thought. Would the Malaysian team be it’s strongest with it’s 5 strongest players based on FIDE Rating list?
- IM Wong Zi Jing
- IM Mas Hafizulhelmi
- FM Nicholas Chan
- FM Lim Yee Weng
- FM Peter Long
This would be a young an very strong team - the only old member would be FM Peter Long.
I asked if he would play in such a case and he said he would be happy to help by being the team’s trainer and just be the back-up player if anyone got sick.
As for me I think Zi Jing and Nicholas Chan participation may not be possible if they are still busy with their studies. Also there is already an on-going round robin selection tournament with 8 players taking part. It’ll be interesting to see what is the actual team composition. I assume we will get to see that after a month’s time..

I think, IM Jimmy Liew is still strong and got many experience playing in international tournament. So he still deserved to play. Having said that, I think FM Anaz Nazreen Bakri also should be inculuded as the dark horse. Remember his good results in 2006 Turin OLYMPIAD which is his first Olympiad.
Elo rating is not the single criteria that should be considered to select Malaysian player because some of them play less rated tournament but still strong compare to higher rated player.
Just my humble opinion
