Whoa now. Slow down!
Which webmaster doesn’t like traffic? In my case, I’m not so happy with higher traffic this time. I’ll have to ask GilaChess readers to do me a favour. Try to visit GilaChess.com only a few times a day (3-5 visits is ok). GilaChess traffic has been spiking ever since Stonemaster website expired.
Bigger number of visits sounds good but there is a downside.
My Problem
My webhost package is “shared hosting” which is one of the cheaper options to host a website. However since there are other websites hosted on the same computer/web server, the webhost company places a limit on how much traffic each website can receive. Too much and it will start affecting the other websites. Right now GilaChess.com has received a few warning emails telling me that we have passed our CPU usage. Since I do not have access to the CPU daily usage logs, the number of visits is a good indication. I am guessing that 350 visits and above is the “danger zone” that if we cross that consistently for a few days, we will definitely get more warning emails with the threat of eventual shutdown.
Solution
The logical step is to upgrade my package to one that supports higher traffic. I’m currently on their Gold package which is about RM 300 a year. The next higher package is Semi Dedicated which will solve my traffic woes. However, the price for that is RM 239 per month which 10 times more than I can afford.
So I have no choice but to ask GilaChess readers to check in GilaChess website only a few times a day if you can. Also, there is at most only one update a day on the site anyway so you won’t miss anything. In the meantime I’m installing cache plugins for both GilaChess.com and this blog which hopefully will help.
What about DATMO ?
With the Malaysian Chess Festival just around the corner, posting DATMO/AmBank updates on GilaChess.com will definitely kill the site. 
The solution for this is to post on a new website. Opening a free blogspot account for the final DATMO event is fine but I feel it’s a little cheesy and cheap for such a prestigious event. So, I’m buying a brand new official website for DATMO and I’ll announce the URL soon.
The final day results will still be posted at TCN - MCF official site and also the new tournament site.

actually i’ve same problem previous. at pick hour, my web going into 200 visitors per hour! but actually what taking ur bandwidth is wordspew widget!
