WiFry Antenna works !

I went to the Curve to look for the “WiFry” antenna to boost my notebook’s WiFi signals.

Found a few nice ones in IKEA and Ace Hardware store but they were too expensive at RM 15- RM 30 each.

Finally found one at TESCO for only RM 3.

Poked a hole in the centre using a hammaer and a nail and put a USB WiFi adapter thru it.

Next I went to Wilayah to try it out and it worked! Without the WiFry booster I only got 2 sources of WiFI in Wilayah. However I found 4 WiFi sources using the “WiFry” antenna at the same spot.

Next I tried to access the weak unprotected WiFi signal from the Wilayah playing hall and got a good and stable signal. I was able to surf the net without any problem.

Now the only thing is to see if it can receive the weak Starbucks signal from CitiTel playing hall.

Actually, it has been shown that you can make better indoor antenna than most of those sold in the shops with very simple materials. Only they don’t look so nice.

Believe it or not, they showed one which can connect from 2 miles.

All said, it is illegal to do what you are doing in USA. You can be prosecuted in court. Not sure what the situation is in Malaysia, so you better keep quite about it and better still don’t try, if you can.

Yes it’s illegal to ’steal’ WiFi in the US. There are persecuted cases in the UK too.

But the situation is more lax in Malaysia. Anyway, I have a paid Airzed account. Only thing is the source is at the Hotel lobby at Ground floor while the playing hall is on the 5th floor.

I think that record breaking 2 miles WiFi used special equipment and a direct line of sight without going thru any concrete building material.
