Li Chao the defending champion again
GM Li Chao successfully defended his title in the Malaysian Open 2008 despite losing to GM Susanto Megaranto. Looks like he will be trying to repeat that feat again in the Philippines tournament. He won the 2nd PGMA early this year.
Picture above is of Li Chao in Round one of the PGMA. He won using the black pieces vs Candidate Master NGUYEN Van Huy (ELO 2386). He will be facing Julio Catalino Sadora (ELO 2470) with White tomorrow in Round 2.
Of course it won’t be an easy feat with 20 other strong GMs taking part.
Familiar face for those who have played in the Astro Team Rapid recently - Uzbek GM Marat
GM MCHEDLISHVILI Mikheil (ELO 2604) is the other GM above ELO 2600 beside GM Zhang Zhong.
