Virus infected again!
First it was my Dell (now temporarily out of commission) now it’s my sister’s Sony notebook.
All I did was just turn off AVG, a freeware antivirus, for a moment while trying to install a different antivirus. As soon as I disabled AVG I started getting popups after less than 30 minutes!! The popups said that I have malware infection when in fact the popup program itself was spyware. I was surprised how fast I got infected and I wasn’t even running the browser!
Then I realised the WiFi connection was open and the router does not have a firewall. Later I learnt that you can get attacked from the Internet without a firewall or antivirus on. Lesson learnt. When disabling your antivirus to install a new one, make sure that there is no Internet connection !! Scanning the computer now to find it full of spyware and trojans.
Looks like the safest solution now is to format the harddisk
. That’s half a day down the drain.
