This is the second time I’m in a foreign country because of chess. Vung Tau, Vietnam to be exact.
The number of participants is crazy. About 900 in total!
Tonight will be the opening ceremony and I get a chance to attend that and take a few pictures. Will post it here and also the WYCC blog later.

Prepaid card in a foreign country. I found that it was useful in the Philippines to get a prepaid card for my phone. If someone calls me from Malaysia I’m charged for receiving the call and the cost is high. So it’s economical to get a local prepaid card.
It’s the same in Vietnam. Prepaid cards are easy to obtain and one prepaid package is about 100,000 VND which is about RM 21.

Overheard GM John Fedorowijc commenting about chess coaching upon arrival to World Youth Chess Championship in Vung Tau, Vietnam yesterday. Presumably he is one of the coaches for the USA team.
