Grandmaster in your Pocket
Pocket Fritz 3 has been out for some time now.
I use Pocket Fritz 2 and it is very useful. Particularly when I’m following games from DATMO in the past years with the analysis engine on. It pin pointed a missed win in Mas endgame in the last DATMO. Not an easy thing to see if you analyse ‘manually’. Of course the portability is the main strength as the ELO strength is not on par with it’s bigger desktop brother, Fritz 11. Still, Pocket Fritz 2 is estimated to be about ELO 2400+ on my Ipaq 4150. The more powerful the PDA CPU the more stronger the engine, of course. ChessBase boasts of an ELO rating of 2650 for Pocket Fritz 3!
Looking thru the specs, I’m quite happy to see that the latest version 3 of Pocket Fritz incorporates the Chess Media System feature. This means you can view ‘lectures’ with synchronised audio and chess board on pocket Fritz. Of course there are other features like access to searching 4 million games online but the multimedia feature is the one I think is most useful. Particularly for someone who likes to learn via chess videos. Now you do not need to be in front of your notebook or PC to learn or analyse games. You can do that anywhere.
