I’m quite happy with my Olympiad PGN reader program as it was written in less than an hour. I rarely write computer programs anymore ever since I quit my job as a programmer more than 1 year ago. Feeling more confident, the past few days I’ve been trying to write a database program to store PGN files for ChessASIA.net but I’ve hit a wall. I thought it’s very simple to just strip the PGN and store the games into a web database (MySQL). Technically though, it’s not that simple.

Today I took a break and shifted a gear down and did something different. My “extended Swiss 46 results display” was hard coded to work with 6 or 7 round tournaments. I just extended it to support 8 rounds. The reason is IIUM tournament held yesterday was 8 rounds. Even this took me 3 hours to write. (sign of getting old
)
Anyway here’s the result (mouse over the names and rounds to see) :-
