They have finally published the round 2 results from the KL Open Challengers online. And not a moment too soon. I can see from the search engine referrals that a big number of people are searching for the results of both the Masters and Challengers section of the KL Open. Many of them end up here or in klopen.blogspot.com and getting disappointed when there is no such result.Being an ‘outsider’ this time, I have no access to the results.
Anyway it’s out now and let’s take a look at the leaders.
Edwin Lam was the first person I met when I arrived at the playing hall and it’s good to see him leading the charge in the Challengers section of the KL Chess Open 2008. He has 2/2 points and playing on board 1 for both rounds. Following closely with the same score of 2/2 are Juhaidi, Mat Zaki Yeop, Augustinus, Christine Paragua (Mark Paragua’s sister?), Fikri Saleh, Mohd Asman Hisyam, Nur Najiha, Jin Huey Boey, Shreyes Subramaniam and Tan Kien Wei
. Round 3 has already been played yesterday but I can’t find the result online. I’ll get it today and post it.
Tremors II: Aftershocks buy Let’s not forget junior talents like Malaysian 9-year old Yeoh Li Tian (picture) and Indonesian Medina Warda Aulia
who are a wee behind the leaders following draws in Round 2. They both have 1.5 points. Medina is a name many have not heard before because she is a rising junior. She performed admirably well in the latest World Youth Chess Championship held in Vietnam, leading most of the way but faltering in critical final round to finish top 3. It will be interesting to see how junior talent fare against the adults taking part.
There are about 66 participants from various countries such as Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines and India taking part in the KL Open Challengers Section.
