Fairuz also played in the last National Age Group and finished 4th in the Under 12 section behind established players WCM Nur Nabila, NM Tan Li Ting and Camilia Johari. It’s good to see another Malaysian junior with promising potential.

She won her last round game to finish 7½ points out of 9 to take clear first place.

Tournament leader Francois Wolfaardt had to settle for second place when he drew his last round to finish half a point behind with 7/9.

FM Mok Tze Meng will meet Penang webmaster Tan Eu Hong in the final round.

IM Mas Beverly Hills Cop III release

was leading with Mok until his loss to NM Ronnie Lim. Despite that setback Mas boucned back is still  in second place and is half a point behind Mok. Mas will meet Vietnamese Do Thi Thuong in the last round. Can he catch up with Mok ?

Top seed GM Gerhard is now in third place having drawn with Ronnie and Mok but losing to Mas. He will be playing against Ismail Ahmad.

Up and coming youngster Mark Siew of Perak did very well in this Penang Open. He beat Yeap Eng Cheam in one of the rounds and went up to board 1 to meet tournament leader FM Mok Tze Meng. Mark lost this game but I’m sure we’ll see more good results from this junior.
