Sorry. Perhaps the most interesting game of all was between Ian Udani and Nicholas Chan which I am not yet able to get. Will publish that as soon as I can.

How does one pronounce this? I always thought it was pronounced “Collie”. However at least two chess coaches pronounces it “Coal” system.

+ DATCC Round 15 Results By GilaChess 29 July 2009 at 11:32 pm and have No Comments

"Clash of the Titans" results:-

Board 1: Ooi Chern Ee beats Lim Yee Weng.

Board 2: Jimmy Liew lost Mok Tze Meng

Board 3: Soon Wai Cheong lost to Abdullah Che Hassan

Board 4: Ian Udani beat Nicholas Chan

No. SNo. Team Res. Team SNo.
1 8 SMS Gold 2 – 2 GOLDIS 10
2 7 Tan & Tan ½ DAT Chess Centre 9
3 6 PricewaterhouseCoopers 1 – 3 Nusa Mahkota Chess Club 1
4 5 786 Chess Club 3½–½ Persatuan Catur Wanita Malaysia 2
5 4 Spawn 2009 4 – 0 MBS Kuala Lumpur 3

How’s that for my first prediction. At least 3 out of 5 of my predictions were right !

I predicted a win for Nusa but got the margin wrong.

Also, I underestimated my own team result vs Tan & Tan. :) . They didn’t field their strongest lineup so we were lucky, I guess.

+ DATCC Round 15: GilaPredictions By GilaChess 29 July 2009 at 1:24 pm and have No Comments

I have refrained  from predictions particularly because I’m part of a team in the DATCC league. But since other blogs are also making predictions, here’s my own (with no facts or analysis to back them up :) ) :-

No. SNo. Team Res. Team SNo.
1 8 SMS Gold 2 – 2 GOLDIS 10
2 7 Tan & Tan 2 – 2 DAT Chess Centre 9
3 6 PricewaterhouseCoopers 1½ – 2½ Nusa Mahkota Chess Club 1
4 5 786 Chess Club 3½ – ½ Persatuan Catur Wanita Malaysia 2
5 4 Spawn 2009 4 – 0 MBS Kuala Lumpur 3

SMS Gold and GOLD IS is said to be the “clash of the titans” but I do not think so. Both teams are strong and their results will be close. Either a draw or a narrow win (2.5-1.5) for either team. The tournament champion will be decided by how these two teams fare against the weaker teams.

Tonight’s match result however depends on whether  SMS Gold bring in their secret weapon from Melaka (Nicholas Chan) to tilt the scale.

Thoughts:

lt would be fun if we could have a prediction feature on the blog where visitors will make each individual predictions and see who predicted most accurately.

+ Who Played Who By GilaChess 29 July 2009 at 12:53 pm and have No Comments

swissreader-new-version

Just improved my “interactive crosstable” program to include Swiss Manager.

Previously my script worked only with Swiss46. As many events now use Swiss Manager to do the pairing, many results could not be displayed in the “interactive” format.

I have always wanted to add in support for Swiss Manager but never got around to doing it. I am happy that this morning I finally ported over a new version that can now work for both pairing programs.

Tried it out with the recent KL Young Talent 2009 results. Check it out:-

Tell me if you find any errors in the above pages as these are fresh changes.

Probably the next improvements to make are:-

  • faces of opponents as a small thumbnail picture beside the list of opponents
  • read the results directly from www.chess-results.com and create the “interactive” results on the fly.
  • collect a database of chess player’s faces for the program to use
  • index page for all past “interactive” results

+ KL Young Talent Chess Championship By GilaChess 26 July 2009 at 2:52 pm and have No Comments

I totally forgot that this event was even on until I took a look at my Google chess calendar. Looking at the time I think I can just make it to catch the last two rounds of the competition.

There is 121 participants taking part in 3 age groups namely Under-13, Under-11 and Under-9.

The event is unique as other than the offers cash prizes and trophies to the winners, the organisers also promises the following for the top 3 winners:-

  1. 12 weekend training sessions throughout the year.

  2. Free entry to KL Open and representation of KLCA in team competitions where possible.

  3. Special 4 day boot camp during long school terms break.

  4. Financial support in consultation with MCF if selected to represent Malaysia in designated ASEAN/Asian/World Youth competitions.

+ National Closed Bulletin sent By GilaChess 24 July 2009 at 9:06 pm and have No Comments

image

For those who bought the National Closed bulletin, I have to say sorry because it was just mailed yesterday. All the photostated copy had a page that was blur so I reprinted that one page, tore off the original staple binding and bought a comb binding machine to reinsert that page. That was a lot of work!

Anyway you should expect the bulletin in the mail in 3-4 days from now.
