It just isn’t fair is it? To come this far and suffer the same setback we experienced a couple of years back when chess was not in the MSSM. Wasn’t it just a few months back that a sports minister pledged that he would look into a budget for chess? ![]()
Although not officially confirmed, chess will most likely be a victim of budget cuts and taken out of MSSM next year. This is definitely a huge blow to chess in schools. There will be less teachers involved in chess next year which in turn translates to many lost potential young talents. Another generation or two of chess junior talents down the drain?
That is just too bad for Malaysia as our fellow neighbours like Vietnam, China and India are making big strides in finding and developing strong junior players while we idle.
