STRATEGY OF ATTACK

7-8 June 2010, 10am-5pm

Attacking the enemy king is one of the most exciting parts of chess, but is also one of the hardest to play accurately. Every player has had the experience of seeing a promising-looking attack crumble into dust, whereupon the enemy counter-attack sweeps aside everything in its path.  In this strategy of attack workshop, we explain why some attacks succeed while others fail to reach their goal and through establishing general principles of attack will provide excellent guidance to the student on when to launch an attack and how to ensure it has maximum chance of success.

ENDGAMES FUNDAMENTALS

9-10 June 2010, 10am-5pm

In chess, the endgame is the moment of truth. It is the phase of the game in which we try to reap the seeds of our efforts, regardless of whether it is for the full point and victory or a half point for a draw.  In the endgame the significance of any error increases, as there are few
opportunities to correct them.  In this endgame fundamentals workshop, the student – the young aspiring tournament player – will be taught the most important endgames
together with the underlying principles and how they can be applied to
typical situations that may arise in practical play.
