Dell XPS 16

Recently I had to demo some of my work to clients and that was when my Asus 10.2″ really felt tiny.

The Dell Alienware m11x maybe my dream notebook but I think the XPS series is more practical.

For one it has a very nice large 15.6″ 1080p WUXGA (1920×1080) WLED Full HD Display which is one of the better notebook screens out there.

In terms of looks, it’s definitely better looking than my old Dell 640m.

The CD goes in like in a Mac notebook – slot load.

The specs for the Dell XPS is pretty high end:-

Processor

Intel® Core™ i7-740QM (1.73GHz, 8Threads, turbo boost up to 2.93Ghz, 6M cache)

Operating System

Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64bit (English)

Memory

8GB (4GBx2) 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM

Display/Monitor

15.6 ” 1080p WUXGA (1920×1080) WLED Full HD Display

Hard Drive

640GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive

Optical Drive

Slot Load Fixed Blu-ray BD-ROM / DVD + /-RW Combo Drive

Graphic Card

1GB DDR3 ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730

The current price at Dell Malaysia website for the above is RM 4899. That’s just a hundred cheaper than the M11x. One big minus is the battery life is only around 2½ hours. Still, the XPS is the best notebook for work and it won’t be carried around that often anyway. The netbook is more suitable for the occasional mobile work.
