Pocket Fritz 4 on Samsung Omnia i900
Here is a first look at Pocket Fritz 4 running on the Samsung Omnia.
At first I was afraid that the Omnia’s non standard 240×400 screen may not be able to run Fritz 4. Many games had problems running on the Omnia because of the screen. I was relieved to see that there was no problem.
In fact the Omnia screen had a big advantage at being extra “longer”. Most normal Windows Mobile phones has a resolution of 240×320 only. The Omnia can show more information such as move notation or engine analysis.

At full screen. Usually on full screen, only the board is visible. On the Omnia you can see a few lines of engine analysis too.
The Omnia has an accelerometer, meaning it can detect whether it’s in portrait or landscape mode. Putting the screen on the side automatically switches the screen to landscape mode.
Slightly bigger board size at full screen.
Overall I’m quite pleased with the Omnia running Fritz. My only complain is that there is no 3.5″ audio jack to put in my headphones. I would like to watch chess videos with headphones. Especially great while travelling. Luckily buying an adapter will solve that problem.
