World Championships

Not chess but Starcraft. I appreciate Starcraft because it’s so much like chess in so many aspect. I thought I just wanted to watch one or two matches but ended up spending the whole Sunday watching Starcraft Global Finals which is essentially a World Championship. This is historic for Starcraft as it is a first.

So the first world champion is …

“PartinG” – real name Won Lee Sak, a 19 year old Korean. He is should be happy as he is now the first World Champion of Starcraft.

He beat another fellow Korean in a best of 7 games final. It was an intense nail biting fight up to the last game after both players fought to tie with a 3-3 score.

It was a grand event covered fully live on the internet for the whole day! The event was held in Shanghai, China and generated so much interest that 10,000 seats were sold off in one hour!

For his efforts, PartinG takes home with him a trophy and cash prize of USD 100,000.

Runner’s up prize is USD 40,000 goes to “Creator”(Jang Hyun Woo). Not bad for a 16-year old.
