ASEAN+ Blitz Tournament
There was a blitz tournament held between the arbiters, assistant arbiters, and officials involved in the ASEAN+ tournaments.
WGM Zhang Jilin abstained from playing even though she could play as she was an arbiter of the event. However she said it was “unfair” as she is a professional chess player.
And I guess she would murder all of us. I took part just for the fun of it after a long, tiring day of entering the games.
Alberto of Spain emerged champion finishing a perfect 7 out of 7. He beat Shamsuddin Mat Isa, Thong Yung Chen, Andrew Ooi, Urcan Olimpiu,
Mohd Suhairi Hussin, Che Khairul, Azman Hisham Che Doi.
Second was Urcan Olimpiu of Romania. He won all his games too except for one loss to Alberto.
I finished third being lucky in winning most of my games on time while having the worse position. I guess there are advantages of playing 1 minute chess online
Fourth was Shamsuddin Mat Isa a little unlucky to lose out to me on tie-break because clearly he is the stronger player.
Fifth was Thong Yung Chen from Penang.

Urcan Olympiu - finished second and quite a strong blitz player.

Is that Suhairi on a handphone in the background?

Notebook - ok. Printer - ok. That’s it, we’re set!!

Pairings being generated while the other players impatiently waits for i

Two leaders clash. Alberto vs Olympiu

Mohd. Rizal (left) one of my unlucky opponents that was beating me in position but lost on time.

Azman Hisham Che Doi and Thong Yung Chen from Penang -both top 6 finishers.
Incidentally, Azman lost on time to me too

former FIDE President Florencio Campomanes did not come in time to register for the blitz but he is an avid blitz player. He sits at the side having his own blitz.

His opponent is no pushover either. It’s WGM Zhang Zi Ling.
