TCA has planned for FIDE Rating Tournament in November 2009 .

Two weekends of Nov. 2009 , Swiss System 8 rounds ( 7-9 rounds ) ;

Place ; a Hotel / Ratchaprarop Road ; Bangkok , not far from BTS station.

Time control for each player = 90 Min + 30 Sec./ move ;

Organizer ; TCA / Khun Sahapol with his supporting teams .

Dates:  18, 19, 21, 22 November

Venue: Arnoma Hotel, Rajprarob Road, Bangkok (opposite Central World)

All chess players welcome.

Sumant finished 16th in the recently concluded Asian Junior Chess Championship 2009 in Sri Lanka. Even though it was a junior event it was quite strong seeing participation of 8 International Masters and and 4 FIDE masters.

The Asian Continental attracted top GMs from all around Asia because of it was an opportunity players to qualify for the World Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk. The top 10 players who officially qualify is listed above.

China is proving to be a powerhouse with 5 qualifiers while India coming in second with 3 qualifiers. Host country Philippines has only Antonio Rogelio Jr Uncommon Valor dvd

after Wesley So and Eugene Torre just missed out on the top 10 placing.

image The highlight of the tournament must have been Yu Yangyi who finished in 3rd place and is the only non-GM to be in top 10. This junior is an unknown force but he recorded wins over GM Nguyen Anh Dung, GM Bui Vinh, GM Megaranto Susanto, GM Eugenio Torre and top even seed GM Krishnan Sasikiran Bones buy Barabba film . Susanto Megaranto was not happy with his round 10 loss against the young chinese and was reported to have torn his score sheet in disgust after the game.

Also impressive is Hou Yifan 7th placing in a field full of strong GMs. Already there is talk of her being the next “Judit Polgar”.

The Indonesian Chess Association (Percasi) is sending 10 players to the ASEAN age-group chess competition to be held in Da Nang, Vietnam from June 10 to 18, Percasi said in a statement Friday.

In the boys’ division, the players are Rian Kapriaga in the 18-year group, Farid Firman Syah in the 16-year group, Masruri Rahman and Sean Winshand in the 12-year group, and Musa Kadzim, Azarya Jodi and Jovi Faga in the 10-year group.

In the girls’ division, the players are Medina Warda and Julisa Pasaribu in the 12-year group and Dita Karenza in the 8- year group.

Percasi is financing five players, while the Jakarta provincial administration is financing three and the Bangka Belitung Islands provincial administrations is sending two players.

Chess players from Australia, India and South Korea are also invited to the championships.

There are three events of 90-minute standard chess with an increment of 30 seconds for every step, 25-minute rapid chess and 5-minute blitz chess.

A total of 72 gold medals are available in both the individual and team events.

Made a mistake in my previous post when I assumed that the Asian Continental Women Championship was only 9 rounds. It’s actually 11 rounds! But the fact remains the same. Zahng Xiowen is still leading the tournament, now with 8 points – one full point ahead of her nearest rival. She can possibly lose the final round and take the title on tie-break but from her present form that seems highly unlikely.

Winner of KL Open, GM Anton Fillipov, was not a happy man when he arrived in Kuala Lumpur. He was down here to do his visa in preparation to enter the Philippines for the currently underway Asian Continental Championship. Chessbase wrote an article titled Asian Chess Championship-Scandal in Kuala Lumpur with details. The title is a little misleading as when I first read it, I thought there was blame laid on Malaysia for the "scandal".

Reading the article further it turns out that Fillipov requested a letter from the Philippine organisers but was disappointed when no such letter was delivered when he arrived at the Philippines Embassy despite requesting for them some time back.

From the pairings it looks like Anton Fillipov did not make it.

That’s a shame that a strong player like Fillipov is denied a chance to play because of inefficient paper work.
