As much as I would have liked to go to the RSC to see the KL Grand Prix first leg, I just couldn’t. Luckily, Yatzchess has the latest report on the first leg of the KL Grand Prix. It’s time like these I’m happy to see the new chess bloggers are so hard working to update us on chess news.
See his blog for a picture report of the event.
He even included each round pairings and results.

I can’t believe that the email subscription button on GilaChess.com was not working all this while.
Today I happened to test it and was embarassed to find that it was not working at all. Anyway I’ve fixed it and email subscription is now turned on.
What this means is that you can put in your email address and the website will automatically notify you via email you any new events added to the site.
This could save you time as you need not check the website multiple times a day just to see if there is any updates.

Just noticed I didn’t have a “contact me” page like most other blogs. Just added and you can find it on the top header as a link.
Alternatively I can be reached at the following email :

If Gilachess discontinues for whatever reasons, I’m quite contend that there are so many other blogs to report and publicise chess news.
This is yet another chess blog for Malaysian readers. Yet it’s not “just” another chess blog with cut and pasted chess results from local tournaments but with opinions and interesting subjects to be discussed about Malaysian Chess.

Just an update on my website “suspension”. I was expecting it to be done after Christmas but my chess publisher website (hosted on maribelajar.com) was back online within 2 hours of payment made to Exa Bytes. Thanks Exa Bytes.

I noticed One Utama shopping has better free WiFi reception than compared to a few weeks ago. The signal now is strong and I can get the WiFi signals almost anywhere in the shopping complex. Connection is fast too. However, Susan Polgar blog is blocked for some reason

I thought it was all of blogspot websites were blocked. However my old GilaChess.blogspot.com and hairulovchessmaniacs.blogspot.com loaded without any problem.
Not complaining though about the web filtering because I actually saw some shop owners abusing the free WiFi by monopolising the bandwidth by running torrent downloads. With the filtering, bandwidth hogs are blocked and I am sure this resulted in faster connections.
Although I can’t access Susan’s blog directly, I can still view the content via RSS readers.

There has been an increase in Malaysian chess activity and almost every weekend we have a chess tournament. Of course one day tournaments are the most popular but there are also long time controls events such as DATCC held every week. This can only be a good thing.
Not surprisingly the number of chess blogs have also mushroomed and even I have trouble keeping up with them. Personally I do not visit each an every chess blogs looking for update. I let my program do that for me. Basically I have a PHP program that pulls the headlines from every major chess blogs to one page so I can quickly see if there is anything interesting worth reading. I thought I’d share this with other readers..
You can go to the following URL to check it out:-
http://www.gilachess.com/chessblogs/
This is how the page looks like.
I have included every chess blog I know of but if I missed out your chess blog you want it included in this page, just leave a comment and your URL.
In my to do list: Sort the blogs with the latest updates on top.

It is connected!! The speed is crawlingly slow at 53.6Kbps but I dare not disconnect and reconnect to try and get a faster speed. Let’s hope this will last throughout the day so I can update the final round of the Penang Open.

I have heard horror stories of how bad mobile internet connection was in Penang so I plesantly happy when connection was fast and smooth for the first 2 days. I am using Celcom prepaid broadband Waist Deep hd
and was pretty satisfied with it until yesterday. In the early morning when I tried to connect, it just failed. Furthermore there was no more 3G signal. The whole thing dropped to GPRS which is a much slower connection. I don’t mind a slower connection but I totally could not connect for the whole day except at around 8pm last night when I posted as much as I can. After that it was back to no connection !! Today it is the same thing. Celcom is really spoiling my day.

The modem would start to connect but I will get the irritating connection failed message below every single time

There is no Starbucks or any shops with WiFi that is nearby Dewan Sri Pinang that I know of. The solution now will be to use the hotel’s WiFi where I’m staying which is 10-15 walk to post the update. What a bummer
