It was a nail biting finish watching the game live between Malaysia vs Jersey (I have not heard of this country before!). On paper, Malaysia should win pretty easily but that was clearly not the case. On board 3 FM Jonathan Hawes over 100 points lower than IM Jimmy Liew held the draw. Unrated Tandy Chris held Mok to a draw too. Then, on the last board, I saw Edward have a winning position and then blundering it away only to be winning again after his opponent returned the favour. A good save by Edward in the end when he won. Edward’s game clinched the overall win for the team. Yee Weng’s game was the last to finish on board 1 and it ended in a draw too.

Based on ratings Malaysia should win without much problem. However, it must be noted the Jersey took out Andador (with GM on first board) by 2.5 to 1.5 in the first round so they should not be underestimated. Particularly dangerous may be Tandy Chris on board 2 who is unrated but scored a win vs a 2200 player in the previous round.
