SMS update trial

I’ll be updating tomorrow’s Stonemaster Amateur tournament via SMS and Twitter tomorrow.
What this means is that whatever I SMS to Twitter would appear almost instantly on this blog.
Cool eh? Those who have nothing better else to do on a Saturday, can see this in action on this blog somewhere on the right sidebar labelled [...]

IM me

Stonemaster Fadli tried to contact me via Yahoo messenger and inadvertently sent one email to the Yahoo Group. This was seen as spam as pointed out by Thomas Voon. One of my moderators even banned Fadli’s email from the group.
I’m sure it was an honest mistake. So to avoid such things from happening again, here [...]

Rainy day

It’s raining heavily !!

There’s thunderstorms too, so I pulled out my telephone cords and main power cords to my wireless router as well my new Aztech DSL 605E modem.
Don’t want another lightning strike to ruin my 3-day-old Aztech modem.  Typing this blog post out on my PDA and irKeyboard. They still work well together. Both [...]

Selangor Open - Serious tournament

I’m thinking twice about entering the Selangor Open 2008. I have 3 reasons stopping me from registering. The high RM70 fee, self-preparation and the venue. I don’t know how to get there but that’s a lame excuse I guess.
But RM 70 it’s a bit high. I’m sure the organisers have a reason but [...]

Update: Extended Swiss-46 crosstable results

I am still without broadband. Have not decided what brand of ADSL modem to get as replacement. One good thing that came out of this is that I waste less time browsing aimlessly on the internet. Since I have no internet connection at home, I actually spent more time programming the tourney result pages.
This is [...]

Thanks to the 100

Thanks to the 100 people who signed the petition asking to have Quah Seng Sun’s chess column brought back. I’m including all the names and comments here.

KLCA resurrected

I came to KL in 1993 to work and the first thing that I looked for is chess clubs. Luckily KLCA was just reactivated and started to hold many weekend tournaments in the Russian Cosulate library in Jln Ampang. I had many memorable games there. Saw strong players like Mok and Peter Long drop by [...]

Busy March

Busy for me that is. So I have to say sorry first for the lack of posts on this blog. I even missed yesterday’s Cochrane Open and UM Team Championship. GilaChess  team has taken part in the UM Team even 3 years in a row so it’s a pity this year we have no team [...]

I’m back

If you noticed, all my websites have been inactive lately because I took a long break. Sorry about that.
Things have been rough lately as I lost another uncle to cancer a few weeks ago. This is the second uncle I’ve lost due to cancer in the span of 3 months.
Anyway, not everything was so [...]

Good systematic syllabus

Me, a coach?
I was a coach before. No, not in chess! I coached my students in passing Java exams a few years ago. I say coached because what I did was actually coaching students how to pass the exam. I don’t consider myself a teacher. It was one of the most challenging things I’ve done.
[...]

GACC closing ceremony tonight

I totally did not cover the GACC tournament. What a waste!! I wish I went over today to see the final rounds but missed it.
Anyway tonight is the closing ceremony and I will be there. At least, I can get the results (hopefully) at the dinner. I’ll take pictures of the prize winners there too.
[...]

Expanding GilaChess

Being part of the ASEAN+ tournament with the organisers as well as the parents and coaches has given me new insights into scholastic chess. I got to listen to WGM Zhang Jilin and Joseph Toh views on chess learning as well as from  soon-to-be International Arbiter Alberto from Spain.

The blogging section (GBN) is taking [...]

Zhang Jilin’s blog

One of my pleasant discoveries in the Asean+ tourney is finding out that WGM Zhang Jilin also maintains a chess blog. I showed her my blog and she showed me hers. Alas it was in Chinese. So the only thing I could do was use Altavista’s Bebelfish online translator to try to understand some of [...]
