Pichay cup over
It was a great experience to witness a chess event outside of Malaysia for once. It was very similiar to Malaysian Open but with some obvious differences. The large amount of prize money for the back to back PGMA-Pichay Cup tournament obviously attracted more GMs compared to DATMO. DATMO on the other hand with lesser [...]

Crown Regency Hotel, Makati
One thing I liked about the tournament hotel is that there is FREE internet access. Just plug the network from the wall to the notebook and there is internet! Since it’s free it does get slow at night - probably some kids downloading full movies via torrent. But at other times it’s fast enough.

Xu Tong
This should be Xu Tong’s sixth time to the Philippines but she is not doing well in the 4th Pichay Cup after having collected only half a point from 5 rounds. She doesn’t look happy in the picture either.
She gets a bye in the 6th round.

NCFP website down
It appears that the ncfphilippines.org website which has the results and latest games for the ongoing 4th Pichay Cup is down.
Luckily you can find the same updates at the tournament website: http://chessasia.net
Sometimes redundancy has it’s advantage.

4th Pichay Cup - Round 5 : Li Shilong leads
Remember GM Li Shilong (李师龙) ? There was a brief excitement when Lim Yee Weng obtained a win from him which gave Yee Weng a shot for the GM norm in the Malaysian Open.
Li Shilong now leads the tournament with half a point at 4.5/5.
He has an impressive result defeating Rolando Andador, Goh Weiming, [...]
Playing in the Women Championship
That’s what Alex Wohl said. He joked that he was "playing in the women championship".
Wang Xiaohui (2215) was his 4th round opponent and 7th female opponent so far in the PMGA-Pitchay back to back tournament. He beat Xiaohui using Black but lost to Ali Branzuela in the 5th round.

Alex Wohl beat me
Not in the game of chess but in the number of female players he played against. My record was playing against 5 girls in a row.
Alex who just recovered from dengue went one up with 6!! His last round opponent was WIM Irine Sukander Kharisma. Of course that’s from 2 tournaments. 4 from PGMA [...]
Wang Li defeats Julio Catalino Saddora
Round 3: Wang Li (2392) defeated IM Julio Catalino Saddora (2470) with the White pieces. He drew GM Ehsan (2597) and Steven Yap Kim (2321) in the previous two rounds.

Giant Killer - Ronald Bancod
Bancod downed GM Marat Dzhumaev in the first round and then defeated countryman GM Darwin Laylo in the second round. It’s a big feat for someone who just finished with 3 points in the first tournament (PGMA). In the third round he drew Jayson Gonzales.

4th Pichay Cup: Wesley off to a good start
Two rounds and he has 2 points so far. Round 2 victim being Ronald Dableo.
Wesley So’s game projected on the screen.
3rd Round. GM Wesley So vs Wan Yungo on board 3.
GM KAZHGALEYEV Murtas who is the highest rated player at ELO 2641. He is playing on board 1 vs GM IULDASHEV [...]
So looking to redeem himself
Wesley So looking to live up to his coming 2600 rating. He performed poorly (by his standards) in last week PGMA cup to finish in 25th place. He won his first round game vs IM Alex Wohl of Australia.
