Zhou Weiqi drew against Li Chao and but still maintains his half point lead in the tournament as some of the other top boards drew too. Board 2 Ghaemmagami, Ehsan drew with Le, Quang Liem. Board 3: Megaranto beat Rolando Nolte. Antonio drew with Wesley on board 4. Richard Bitoon beat Wynn Zaw Htun.
Mas beat Xu Tong (2188) of China and is currently at 50% score (3.5/7). He will play against Aris Tiles (2212) of Indonesia next.

The Malaysian Chess Federation (MCF) organised the World Youth Olympiad (U16) which took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia 20th-28th August 2002. 2nd seeds China A took clear first on the back of an 85% score on board 1 by Wang Yue and an 80% score on board 2 by Zhao Jun. Top seeds the Ukraine finished second but could be said to have underperformed with IM Alexander Areshchenko scoring only 60% on board 1 and soon to be confirmed GM Sergey Karjakin losing a lot of points on board 2 with a 75% (performance rating of about 2373) score. Natalia Zdebskaja scored 81.3% for them on board 3. 7th seeds Indonesisa took 3rd place and 4th seeds India finished 4th. Overperformances were achieved by 11th seeds Uzbekistan (5th) and 17th seeds Singapore (9th). 5th Seeds England (13th) and 3rd seeds Romania (6th) performed less well.

As comparison, National Closed is not as attractive as the Selangor Open because there is no prize money. However every 2 years when the Olympiad is held, there will be the strongest chess players fighting it out for the chance to represent the country – prize money or not. There lies the attraction of the National Closed – a chance to go overseas to play chess for the country and also the coveted title of National Master Empire of the Sun download .

IA Lim Tse Pin is by now a face very familiar with any Malaysians who have anything to do with chess.
Tonight was his wedding dinner and I got the opportunity to attend it. My only comment is that It’s about time !!
Tse Pin has been pretty selfless in his work for Selangor Chess being instrumental in organising tournaments, being an arbiter, training/coaching etc I’m surprised he has any time for his personal life.

Tournament leader, Zhou Weiqi
has been performing excellently. The last two rounds he has been the giant killer in beating tournament favourite Wesley So and Indonesian most promising – Susanto Megaranto. He faces his compatriot Li Chao next. Li Chao recovered from his Round 5 loss against Megaranto by beating Julio Catalino Saddora in Round 6. Li Chao shares the current 2nd and 3rd spot with Vietnamese GM Le Quang Liem. Mas lost his round 6 to 20-year old Chinese Yang Kaiqi
(2307).
Mas is paired against yet another Chinese player, Xu Tong (2188). China has sent 14 players to take part in this tournament.

Lost in Space full movie There are so many one day tournaments nowadays, there’s bound to be clashes.
The latest clash will be next week’s KSAS Open and the Pel Klang Open.

I would love to go to both tournaments but since they are both on the 17th of May, that would not be possible. The other problem is transportation to both the tourney. However for the Port Klang tourney, the organisers have offered to pick me up at the train station so I’m most likely to go to this tournament instead 
Also, I got to talk with one of the organisers and he said that the clash was not intentional. The date was chosen long before but they did not publicise it till later.

Wonderboy GM Wesley So suffered his first defeat in the 2nd Philippines Open losing on the White side of a French Defence to Zhou Weiqi.
22 year old Zhou Weiqi was the 2nd place winner of the Aeroflot Open with a performance rating of 2703.
