Got to put the Asus EEE PC 1000HE through it’s paces by using it for more than 8 hours today.
I’m working on a new chess related website and I used only the netbook to do all the required work like FTP to upload, image editing (with Paint Shop Pro), FireFox, IE and Chrome as test web browsers etc.
I am quite impressed with this model of the EEE PC. The 1000 HE is not even selling yet in Low Yat (I asked a few days ago), so I’m lucky to try it first.
I’ve only used it heavily for a few days but I quite like it already. There is little difference in terms of performance compared to my 2 year old Dell 640m notebook.
At first it took a little getting use to but I quickly found it easy to type at my regular speed on this netbook keyboard. It’s said to be 92% size of a full size keyboard.
The only time I stopped and closed the lid of the netbook (going into sleep mode) was during lunch time and dinner time.
Finally stopped working on it just now which is crazy because that means the battery has lasted about 8-9 hours.
Of course to be fair, I should subtract about 2 hours from that when the netbook was in sleep mode.
Still a battery life of 6-7 hours with heavy use (WiFi turned on) is no less than impressive.
I will post a fuller report of my experience with this netbook in a couple of days when I get more familiar with it.
Incidentally I’m at a cosy cafe called Rosette in Tanah Rata, where they allowed me to sit here the whole day while using their free WiFi
